Dermatology & Venereology

Dermatology and venereology are two medical specialties that deal with conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. However, while dermatology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of various skin diseases, venereology deals specifically with sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Dermatologists are trained medical professionals who diagnose and treat a wide range of skin conditions, including acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer, and more. They also provide cosmetic treatments such as botox injections, laser therapy, and chemical peels.

Venereologists, on the other hand, specialize in diagnosing and treating STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and herpes. They are also responsible for providing education about safe sex practices and preventing the spread of STIs.

While there is some overlap between the two specialties, dermatologists typically treat a wider range of skin conditions, including those that are not sexually transmitted, whereas venereologists are more specialized in STI diagnosis and treatment. In some countries, dermatology and venereology are combined into a single specialty known as dermatovenereology.
